Compare two Excel or CSV files for added, removed, and changed rows

Upload two spreadsheets, pick the key columns that identify each row, and download an Excel workbook showing which records were added, removed, changed, or unchanged between the files.

Drop spreadsheet files here, or add them from your device.

Excel (.xlsx) or CSV. Up to 15 MB each. Add two files. The first is A, the second is B.

What this tool does

It matches rows between two Excel (.xlsx) or CSV files using the key column(s) you choose, then classifies each key as added (only in the second file), deleted (only in the first), changed (same key but different values), unchanged, or ambiguous when duplicate keys appear on either side.

How to use it

  1. Upload the two Excel or CSV files (first file is A, second is B).
  2. Select the sheet to use in each file.
  3. Choose the key column(s) that identify each record in file A, then pick the matching key columns in file B.
  4. Click Compare and download the result workbook.

Example uses

  • Compare this week’s export to last week’s and list new or dropped customer IDs.
  • See which invoice rows changed amount or status after a system re-export.
  • Check whether two team copies of the same roster still match on employee ID.

Supported files & limits

  • Excel (.xlsx) or CSV for each file.
  • Up to 15 MB per file.
  • Two files required (first file is A, second is B).

What you get

An Excel workbook with a summary and separate sheets for added, deleted, changed, unchanged, and ambiguous rows, based on the key columns you chose.

Important limitations

  • Row matching depends on the key columns you select.
  • Duplicate keys on either side are listed on the Ambiguous sheet instead of being classified as added, deleted, or changed.
  • This tool compares matching keys and reports row changes. Use Find Missing / Extra Rows when you only need records that appear in one file but not the other.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Compare and Find Missing / Extra Rows?
Compare reports added, deleted, changed, and unchanged rows for matching keys. Find Missing / Extra Rows only lists keys that appear in one file but not the other—it does not report value changes on matching keys.
Can I compare files with different column names?
Yes. Pick the sheet in each file and select key columns by position. File A and file B can use different headers as long as you choose the same number of key columns on each side.
What happens if the same ID appears twice?
Duplicate keys on either file are moved to the Ambiguous sheet so they are not counted as a simple add, delete, or change.
